The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, Florentino Fernando Dias, visited (12-10) the National Stadium 24 de Setembro to verify the recent work of placing new seats, one of the aspects of the prohibition of the venue by the African Football Confederation ( CAF) and FIFA.
In a statement to journalists after the visit, he guaranteed that the stadium will be used for any activities by Bissau-Guinean youths.
"We are going to rehabilitate the stadium, and its priority function is football. It is an extremely important infrastructure for the country, which a serious investment has been made and is available to the youth.
We have football and other sports that make use of this space" , he explained. In the past, the stadium was used for other non-sporting activities, it was mostly used for cultural purposes and consequently contributed to worsen the condition of the pitch.
The government official also guaranteed that all requirements for the stadium to host international matches have been resolved.
"The pitch is very good according to the technical pairs; the changing room is also great; chairs are already being placed and the lighting lacks some requirements, but it will be ready soon."
On the same occasion, Florentino Dias said that the Guinean executive is closely following the issue of food poisoning among Guinean players the day before the match against the Moroccan national team in the defeat by (5-0) in the third round of qualifying for the Qatar World Cup 2022.
It should be recalled that the 24 de Setembro National Stadium was banned by CAF and FIFA for not complying with certain aspects, such as the good condition of the pitch, changing room, lighting and chairs, which made it impossible for the national team to face the opponents to qualify for the Qatar World Cup 2022.
