Real Madrid signed the Bissau Guinean left-back Ferland Mendy from Olympique Lyonnais

Real Madrid announced on 12 , June 2019 that they had completed the signing of Lyon’s Mendy for £42.7million  ( 48 million euros) in the latest bid to strengthen their side for next season.

Mendy shared on Instagram:

“I am very proud and honored to commit myself today to the largest club in the world and join a coach who I am sure I will still progress. I would like to thank Lyon for his president, his staff, his supporters and more generally the entire club and my partners for these last two years. I wish them the best. I do not forget my family, my relatives, and all those who accompanied me”.

Ferland who was born in Meulan-en-Yvelines, France, is of Senegalese and Bissau Guinean descent.

He earned his first senior call-up for the French team in November 2018, making his debut against Uruguay.

Mendy, who has signed a six-year contract, joined Lyon in 2017 he has played four times for France and played games in Champions League.

The 24-year-old made 79 appearances, scoring three goals and providing seven assists.

President Florentino Perez said on Wednesday: ‘The start of an exciting new project for next season.’
