Eti Tavares | Sharing my life story – Biography

Etiandro Igualdino Tavares known as Eti is a professional soccer player born in Guinea-Bissau on 24, July 1993. Currently lives in North America United States.

During his youth career , Eti played for Santa Rosa and Real Salt Lake AZ. As a senior football player he played for Real Monarchs; Fresno Fuego and Tulsa Roughnecks.

Currently, Etiandro plays as a forward for FC Tucson in the USL League One and he is known for his speed and agility on the pitch, outmaneuvering his opponents with quick feet and skill on the ball. Being “the fastest man on the field”.

Eti was born in Guinea Bissau, in a town called Bunkulen. He moved to the United States in 2004 when he was ten years old to get away from the residual violence from the Civil War. When the war started in 1998 his family had to move several of times to get away from the violence and into safer areas. They moved from their home town of Bunkulen to Mansoua because they thought it would be safer there.

“When the fighting slowed down, I was excited to go home. I could not wait to sleep in my own bed and play with my favorite toy, a wooden soccer ball that I would play with before going to sleep. However, when we got back to Bunkulen, I was devastated. Our house was destroyed. I remember looking at the house with tears in my eyes as a part of me had been taken away “.

Although it took him two to three years to become confortable in English, soon he started to love his American life in the U.S.A

In Guinea Bissau, soccer was his only form of recreation. His friends and him would make soccer balls by stuffing paper and trash in plastic bags and then wrapping plastic bags tight around the ball.

Once in California, his step-dad put him on a recreational team, but the coach quickly moved him to a better club. From there, he moved from club to club until a soccer coach recommended for a tryout with Real Salt Lake – Arizona soccer academy at Grande Sports Academy. The academy is the residential youth academy of Real Salt Lake, a professional team in Major League Soccer.

“I learned that with my hard work ethic, perseverance, and supportive people guiding me along the way, there is nothing that I cannot accomplish”

Said Etiandro.

However, he was presented with an incredible opportunity to achieve his dream of becoming a professional soccer player , he had to sacrifice a lot by leaving his mom, siblings, and friends.
